  • Global Crisis and the Economy Vision of Said Nursi - II

    Editorial

When the evaluations that were made about the global economic crisis causing big shakes in our country and in the world, it can be realized that the crisis points at ontological, socio-political, philosophical, religious and ideological domains besides economic domain. Thus, for the sake of finding long lasting solutions, it is necessary to search for the fundamental reasons for the crisis in these areas.

The fact that everlasting passion and unlimited hedonism of humanbeings form the basis for dramatic changes and the crises during the history, and that this passion drags the world along deeper crises, moreover that modernism couldn’t succeed in fulfilling the formulas of security, peace and happiness that it had guaranteed were understood quite well with this crisis. In this sense, it is a considerable expansion that Pope, the spiritual leader of Catholic world, interpreted the economic crisis as ‘a divine notice’ and, attracted the attentions to the reality that the mentality depending wholly on materiality is wrong.

In the previous issue, we, The Risale-i Nur Institution, put convention texts and the public declarations about “ Global Crisis and the view of frugality of Said Nursi” on which we had aimed to comment with the expansions taking place in the works of Bediüzzaman Said Nursi. Now in the present issue wo go on publishing the convention texts.

Bediüzzaman Said Nursi’s diagnosis and resolution advisory that he put forward/present by paying attention to the essence of such crises tha the world of mankind face has been the most fundamental result of the convention. In this sense, the belief that the economic crisis shaking the world will lay the groundwork for the truths providing the humanity with happiness and the idea that the new world equipped with virtue, morale and justice for humanity can be possible with the experience of Bediüzzaman who presents Qur’anic perspective to us has been become stronger.

In the texts in this issue the signs of these ideas and fixations will be seen. Sami Uslu evaluates the global crisis in the viewpoint of “The Treatise of Frugality” in his article. Uslu emphasizes that the frugality editing the essence of which Bediüzzaman attributes to the Qur’an points at the global crisis we are suffering, and exhibits the contradictions of traditional economy doctrine.

In the work of Ahmet Battal initially cognitive framework of crisis is lined, the reasons for the global economic crisis causing social crisis and acmes are emphasized and some solutions taking ethic moral codes into consideration are presented.

Atilla Yargıcı approaches the global crisis from Qur’anic perspective in his article in which he stressed the global crisis occurred by the embezzlement of financial areas and banks investing money at interest, and this case stems from pragmatism and passion of winning to him.

The article of Bünyamin Duran deals with the philosophical dimensions, and emphasizes that Bediüzzaman’s civilization fiction can overcome such kinds of crises. Ramazan Altıntaş who says “passion for secularism underlie the economic and moral crises seen in global scale” searches the fact of secularism according to Bediüzzaman.

In the article of Ali Bulaç the economic crisis is interpreted as the crisis of modernism. Necmettin Kemal in this sense interpetes the crisis “the point that modernism promising happiness even paradise to the humankind, defending the idea that it can finish/end all the ilnesses, promising secure, reliable future came.”

In his study Recep Ardoğan rehandle the discussions on social and economic rights in the light of economic vision of Bediüzzaman who has made significant fixations concerning understanding/mentality of human, being and life of Islam, and Hüseyin Şahin emphasizes that Islam giving importance to social cooperation and solidarity at utmost level, and aiming to reach social justice prevent such kinds of crisis with alms and prohibiting interest.

Cevat Çakır handles the frugality from the aspect of environment and stresses that one of the main reasons for spoilage of natural balance and environmental pollution needing an immediate solution in today’s world is extravagancy. On the other hand in the article of Şaban Döğen attracts the attention to the fact that there are constant labour and action in the universe. He mentions the truths this labour and action beckon in the viewpoint of Bediüzzaman, and he in this sense emphasizes the importance of this.
